Rule 9 on the cessation of membership is reproduced below as it is considered important that potential members are aware of this to avoid confusion if for whatever reason they should wish to resign their membership.

Rule 9 CESSATION OF MEMBERSHIP

             A member shall cease to be such upon the occurrence of any one of the following events, namely:-

 

             a)             If being a Body Corporate, it be wound up or dissolved (other than for the purpose of amalgamation or reconstruction); or

 

             b)             If being an individual he becomes a bankrupt or of unsound mind; or

 

             c)             If, in the opinion of the Executive Committee, he or it ceases to be eligible for membership; or

 

d)          d)            If it or she/he resigns membership by giving not less than three months' written notice, sent recorded delivery to the Director; or

 

             e)              If any subscription or any other monies due from the member to the Association for the then current or any previous financial year be in arrear or unpaid, or on the member committing any breach of or failing to observe any of these Rules, provided that termination of membership under this sub-clause shall be effected by ordinary resolution of the Executive Committee;

 

             f)               On expulsion by a resolution passed by three-fourths of those Members present and voting in person or by a representative at a General Meeting (notice of the intention to submit the resolution having been given when convening the meeting) subject to the right of the member concerned to demand a poll.

 

                            g)             Any company whose Membership ceases or is terminated must, by the end of the three month period of notice refrain from:

 (i) using the Association logo; and

 (ii) using any documentation including signage, that claims or refers to Membership of the Association.

 

Furthermore, the company must return the following to the Secretariat:

 

(i) technical information leaflets and binder

               (ii) the brass effect plaque; and

(iii) any vehicle or window stickers and benefits leaflets.

 

The company shall also forfeit all benefits and services obtained on favourable or discounted

terms which are dependent upon their Membership of the Association.  A list of such benefits and

services is retained by the Secretariat and is available to Members upon request.

( Note: company is defined as including a sole trader or partnership. )     

 

Any unpaid subscription for the financial year current at the time the cessation of membership takes effect (as well as arrears in respect of previous financial years) shall be paid notwithstanding the fact that membership has ceased during the year.
